30% of the world''s electricity came from renewable sources in 2023
We have updated our Energy Data Explorer with all of this data. As the chart shows, renewables produced just over 30% of the world''s electricity in 2023. This growth was mostly driven by the rapid rollout of solar and wind technologies. Hydropower generation actually fell in 2023 as a result of severe droughts, especially in China.
