The race to zero emissions, and why the world depends on it
2010-2019 is the warmest decade on record. On the current path of carbon dioxide emissions, the global temperature is expected to increase by 3 to 5 degrees Celsius by the end of century. To avoid the worst of warming (maximum 1.5°C rise), the world will need to decrease fossil fuel production by roughly 6 per cent per year between 2020 and 2030.

Climate change—reducing Australia''s emissions
1 · Following the repeal of the carbon price in the last parliament, the Emissions Reduction Fund (ERF) is now Australia''s main mechanism to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. However, two-thirds of the ERF''s allocated $2.5 billion funding has now been spent. The ERF, and other policies, will need further funding to achieve our climate targets.
Do shared E-bikes reduce urban carbon emissions?
We find that, on average, shared e-bikes decrease carbon emissions by 108–120 g per kilometre. More interestingly, the reduction effect is much stronger in underdeveloped non-central areas with lower density, less diversified land use, lower accessibility, and lower economic level.
The Sectoral Solution to Climate Change
Buildings: 0.7Gt. This sector is responsible for about 22 per cent of greenhouse gas emissions and has an emission reduction potential of 13.6 gigatonnes annually, with agriculture accounting for 91 per cent of these emissions on average. Agriculture, forestry and other land-based industries (AFOLU) are major contributors to climate change.
The Evidence Is Clear: The Time for Action Is Now. We Can Halve Emissions …
For 1.5°C (2.7°F), this means achieving net zero carbon dioxide emissions globally in the early 2050s; for 2°C (3.6°F), it is in the early 2070s. This assessment shows that limiting warming to around 2°C (3.6°F) still requires global greenhouse gas emissions to peak before 2025 at the latest, and be reduced by a quarter by 2030.
Energy-related carbon emission reduction pathways in Northwest China towards carbon …
Zhang et al. [63] evaluates that in the carbon-neutral scenario, energy-related carbon emissions in China will amount to 680 million tons in 2060, which is reduced by 93% compared with 2015. At the regional level, Lin et al. [ 25 ] finds that energy-related carbon emissions in Shaanxi province will peak in 2030 (330 million tons) and …
West African Sahelian cities as source of carbon stocks: Evidence …
Therefore, this paper aimed to assess the role of urban forests in the climate change debate by estimating the carbon stocks of urban forests and carbon emission factors from the conversion of peri-urban forests into urban forests in Niamey and Maradi, two important sahelian cities in West Africa. A good knowledge of urban forests …
The European Union Emissions Trading System reduced CO2 emissions despite low …
We argue that despite low prices, carbon markets can help reduce emissions. Using a statistical model and sectoral emissions data, we find that the EU ETS, which initially regulated roughly 50% of EU carbon emissions from mainly energy production and large industrial polluters, saved more than 1 billion tons of CO 2 between …
China significantly reduces carbon emissions intensity
China significantly reduces carbon emissions intensity. XI''AN, July 12 -- The cumulative volume of carbon emissions allowances on China''s carbon market was 237 million tonnes by June 30, with a turnover of more than 10.91 billion yuan (about 1.52 billion U.S. dollars). China has established the world''s largest carbon market for …
Reducing Emissions to Mitigate Climate Change Could Yield Dramatic Health Benefits by 2030
Globally, the research shows reducing emissions over the next 50 years to meet the goal of the Paris Agreement to keep global warming under 2°C through the end of the century could prevent about 4.5 million premature deaths, 1.4 million hospitalizations and emergency room visits, 300 million lost workdays, 1.7 million incidences of dementia ...

Reducing carbon emissions: EU targets and policies
Cars and vans produce 15% of the EU''s CO2 emissions. Parliament backed the Commission proposal of zero CO2 emissions for cars and vans by 2035 with intermediate emissions reduction targets for 2030 of 55% for cars and 50% for vans. Learn more about the new CO2 targets for cars. To reach these targets, all new cars that come …
Carbon footprint
Definition The carbon footprint explained Comparison of the carbon footprint of protein-rich foods A formal definition of carbon footprint is as follows: "A measure of the total amount of carbon dioxide (CO 2) and methane (CH 4) emissions of a defined population, system or activity, considering all relevant sources, sinks and storage within the spatial …
Can inequality reduction decrease carbon emissions in China? A …
We develop a counterfactual approach to decompose and investigate the contribution of changes in consumption growth, redistribution, and patterns of consumption to household carbon emissions in China between 2012 and 2016. Fig. 1 illustrates the counterfactual simulation process used, where subscripts 0 and 1 index the base period …
Influence of reduced carbon emissions and oxidation on the distribution of atmospheric CO2: Implications for inversion analyses …
a Reduced carbon emissions estimates are taken from Duncan et al. (manuscript in preparation, 2005) and Wang et al..We assume a CO 2 yield of 1 from CH 4 and CO oxidation. The CO 2 yield from NMVOC oxidation represents the component via CO and is a weighted average of the CO yields from Duncan et al. (manuscript in …
